1. Written on the Icelandair napkin: "Ingólfur Arnarson was the first settler in Iceland, more than 1100 years ago. His trip from Norway lasted four days and there were no napkins."
2. On the first night, Tim and I indulged in the "Whale Menu", which included a lobster soup with a heavy dose of cognac and a whale steak. Just another new creature sampled on this trip. It was delicious.
3. We actually managed to find a sportsbar in Iceland on Friday showing Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals - puck dropped just after midnight local time. The feed on ESPN America was even Hockey Night in Canada, hilarious seeing Don Cherry on the screen abroad. Great game and good result - congrats to Sid and the boys.
4. Even after the sun sets around midnight, it does not get dark here, which is quite disorienting to say the least. Last night before hitting the club NASA, we enjoyed a few pints of Polar Beer from the 24 hour convenience store in the square, around 1AM or so, in what seemed like broad daylight. The club itself was pretty entertaining, including a hilarious cover band that sang mostly well known songs, but also a few in Icelandic that were big hits with the crowd.
5. Off now to drive through the "Golden Circle" sites again and past Vik to Skaftafell for a night at some random hut on "Pig´s Hill". Hoping to head north tomorrow, as Tim heads back to London and I await the arrival of the bachelor party boys. Life is indeed hilarious at the moment.
