"In the Footsteps of the Gods"

Our final day on the coast, we walked briefly around Positano before Blair and I took off for the Sentiero Degli Dei hiking trail toward Praiano. Superb warm-up for the extended hiking about to be attempted, although I do hope that there are no places on the Camino with over 1700 consecutive steps.  Once we cleared the top it was smooth sailing along the ridges, the fog rolling in and out and ultimately receding to provide spectacular views.

Pictures that do far more in a flash to provide a sense of the grandeur and the reason why the trail is referred to as a path of deities are toward the end of this photo album, which starts with a few shots from Naples and Capri.  Pictures from Amalfi, Ravello, and Pompeii can be found here, and images from Roma here.

All in all - as expected for the first main destination of the trip.  Quickly and happily back into the comfort zone of travel - navigating the hostels and transport links, walking my way through city maps mixing right turns with wrong ones, and (of course) experimenting with great varieties of food and beverage.  So, as they say, time for something completely different.  After a solitary day in Paris to walk the Seine, catch some Champions League football, and soak in civilization, it is off to walk in the footsteps of the pilgrims to Santiago.  More on that in a moment.
